I'm thankful that you call it a "solar battery" So many marketers are calling battery packs, 'generators' or 'battery generators'. I get it, they want to equate a HUGE box to a generator in the mind of consumers.... however, it's annoying when YTers buy into that same marketing. Nothing is being generated.

That was a blast! Your delight, at the pieces as they arrived , was infectious. The map is as impressive as are the people who sent you wood from their states. I don't have a favorite state...I have lived in so many and they all spoke to me, like the many woods spoke to you. It's the varieties, differences, hues, colors, scents, and quirks that matter...your map is a treasure

I'm deeply touched by this. I'm struggling through a difficult time and many of the feelings you've described I can relate to. I've been jobless for about four months, which is the the longest period in my life I've been without a job. I'm on my own and very alone and not sure what I'll do when all my money is gone. I keep trying to push forward and trying hard to believe that someone wants me as their employee. There must be someone out there who can use my skills and abilities, right? To hear others, like yourself, get beyond extremely difficult times reminds me that I can too. Thank you for sharing.

What I can't find (except for a few very bad ones) are videos of such vehicles moving against the wind. I assume, although I say this intuitively, that it is possible to build land or sea vehicles capable of moving at a speed similar to that of the wind against them. If I build it I will post a video on the subject. Modern high-performance sailboats are capable of sailing upwind at angles of 30 degrees to the wind and at speeds that, corrected for the angle, are similar to that of the wind against them. I know that in a propeller-driven vehicle moving against the wind, the principle is opposite to that which drives this vehicle of yours, since in this one the wheels are what move the propeller, while in one going against the wind it is the propeller that has to move the wheels and propel the vehicle forward. I will save this video and if I build something I will let you know.

Sorry if this is too long. Good job on the build, but I am a little disappointed that you didn't figure out the leverage/VSR on your own, and even more disappointed in Veritasium for not being able to help you with that (and not including it in his own video). To be clear, I wouldn't expect you to know about the VSR per se, but it is just another way of describing leverage which I do expect engineers (and scientists) to take into account. Since the wheels need to drive the propeller, the wheels need the mechanical/leverage advantage, but with a VSR>1 the propeller has the advantage, and will drive the wheels making the cart want to go upwind. One of the early deniers (a science writer, I believe) built his own model that, like your early tries, did not work. His model was so crude that I wouldn't expect it to work even with a proper VSR, but at one point he says that if anything his model wanted to go upwind. So he undoubtedly had a VSR>1 and such a crude design that it couldn't be used as a negative proof of anything anyway. Nevertheless he used it as "proof" that the BlackBird was a hoax. The leverage equation can be written: FinLin=FoutLout (torque in = torque out) where Fin is the input force, Fout is the output force, and Lin and Lout are the lever arm lengths for the input and output forces respectively (in practice there are losses this doesn't take into account). This can be rewritten as Fout/Fin=Lin/Lout (This is what Veritasium used with Lout=0 to suggest that an infinite force isn't necessarily against physics - while theoretically that may be true, in practice there are NO infinite forces, and with Lout=0 the equation simply means Fin=0 - which is readily evident when you flip the equation - in practice Fin doesn't necessarily go to 0 because of losses). Flipping the equation gives Fin/Fout=Lout/Lin. Since linear speed is angular speed times radius, and the input and output lever arms have the same angular speed, this is also equal to Vout/Vin. And this velocity ratio remains equal to the force ratio with multiple gears/levers (or other mechanical advantages such as hydraulics) in the drive train, and this happens to be the VSR for these carts (remember,The wheel is driving the propeller, so Vin is the ground speed and Vout is the air speed of the cart when the propeller is 'screwing' through the air like a screw screws through wood - but when the propeller moves like that, there is no thrust, so the cart will never quite reach that speed, given friction losses). So, Fin/Fout=Vout/Vin which can be rewritten as FinVin=FoutVout, and that is simply power in equals power out. If Alex Kusenko had been aware that the power analysis was simply another way of looking at leverage, he might have avoided his embarrassingly erroneous analysis (or not, as there are several aspects of classical mechanics that seem to elude him). But he did do some things right. Any 0<VSR<1 will theoretically work, but the closer it gets to1 the closer the input force at the wheels comes to canceling the thrust, so,the more the losses need to be minimized for it to work. But if you do get losses down enough, the higher is the final potential speed. At the other end, the closer the VSR is to 0 (the closer to Veritasium's infinite lever arm), the closer it is to just acting like a sail.

this is really sad, im so incredibly sorry they are pulling the rug out from under you.. i cant imagine how heartbreaking it is to go through this. the memories, the neighbors telling you that your powertools make it feel like home, and not to mention all the effort to make that space 'yours'.. though im probably 6 months late, my brother and i helped a friend move his entire workshop that consisted of machinery that weighed 5000lbs+, much of it came from boeing. im sure youve got it figured out by now, but in case this happens again, we've got some experience moving some heavy precision equipment if youre looking for a person.. best of luck to u, keep your head up, keep resilient, and dont forget your eye pros and ear pros, cheers, luck!
